A few key dates to pencil into your diaries for this month if you’re in London over the next few weeks and looking to check out the art, craft & design scene. There’s sooooo much happening I think I’m going to find it tricky to fit it all in! Let me know if you’re going to any of the following and what events you’ll be checking out!
- [06th -15th of September] Thames Festival Food and Craft MarketA 10-day celebration of the Thames through art, music, food and talks along the banks of London’s iconic river. There are four spots along the river hosting these craft markets where you will find a collective of London’s finest designer-makers from We Make London, Spitalfields and more – not to mention an awesome range of artisanal street food hosted by KERB!
- [14th – 22nd September] The London Design Festival (#LDF13)The bad boy of all design events this year is just round the corner and takes place in London town! In it’s 11th consecutive year, LDF are hosting over 300 events and exhibitions from various design disciplines across the city (they are not joking when they say ‘Design is EVERYWHERE’!!) This nine day festival period is bursting at the seams with fantastic events promoting and celebrating real innovation and craftsmanship this city has to offer so make sure you take a good look at their list of events (or download the app) to see what’s on in order to make the most of it!! While the V&A is the official hub of events, look out for Design Junction, LDF’s One-Stop-Shop at the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street, Clerkenwell Design Quarter, Tent London and the Shoreditch Triangle in London’s vibrant East End (see map) to explore and indulge in more design-related showcases, pop-up shops, installations, talks, and walking tours! This is an absolute MUST DO if you are a design geek and in London!! Some events require bookings so remember to do so before they get full up! Oh and here’s a look at their video for a little taster.
- [17th – 21st of September] IMPRINT: And exhibition of printed design As part of the London Design Festival, Craft Central are hosting a cross-disciplinary exhibition of printed design showcasing some talented designers (click here for the list of exhibitors) using print and mark-making techniques. I am also pleased to let you know that graphic designers Turnbull Grey (who I did my letterpress workshops with and designed this event’s poster and invitation!) will be exhibiting their work too!
Well, that’s the main ones I’ve pencilled in – exact events I’ll be looking to attend at the LDF will follow shortly. If you know of any other events then please do feel free to share them in the comments section! In the meantime, enjoy the next few weeks of creative madness and I’m sure I’ll probably bump into a few familiar faces along the way!! :) xx
