Gifts for Him with Uncommon Goods

Morning! I hope you’re all keeping well and that your week is going oh-so nicely for you. Mine on the other hand, is a tad bit haphazard, mostly playing catch up after being away for a lovely long weekend in the green isle. We were away for a family wedding and to celebrate my Father-in-Law’s 60th birthday, which was all very delightful – pretty chuffed at how much he enjoyed himself.

And speaking of Fathers….we have Father’s Day coming up this weekend! Have y’all thought of anything nice to do or get? Well,  inspired by the occasion, I’ve teamed up Uncommon Goods, to review and feature some of their products that cater to the fellas, especially as I know how hard it can be to buy for men, let alone fathers! Uncommon Goods are an online marketplace who have sourced and curated their collection of handmade, organic products from designers around the globe; be it emerging artists, artisans from low-income countries or the experienced designer-maker…to bring together a community of creatives for you to engage with, each with a story to tell. If you fancy reading up more about the company and their overall ethos, hop on over here.

As for the products – I’ve categorised some of my favourites under the different type of ‘Dads’ in the hope that it will be of some use to you if you’re struggling to find something unique for that special man/men in you life! (or if you just want to treat yourselves, fellas!). Just click on the links at the end of each category to take you to the details of each product. There’s plenty more online so do have a good nosey on there!!

[Private Commission] Wall Art: Faith, Hope, Love

MbM_wedding-commission_1MbM_wedding-commission_2

A custom-made wall art based from the one I had listed ages ago on my Esty shop (which btw, is closed for the next couple of months while im away and while working on rebranding the blog) This was made as a wedding present back in May where I played with several patterns and textures before settling for this floral one. I’ve now made another since then so it definitely seems like a winner! :)  So if you are looking to get something similar done, then just drop me a line via the Contacts Page. xxx

[private commission] A date to remember – 2

MbM_wedding-commission_4Another commissioned work for this custom-made wall art that bears the significant date of their Big Day. The template (fonts and layout) was designed and hand cut to create a stencil. The numerals were then hand-stamped using a rich brushed metallic gold pigment ink on heavyweight cotton paper after which the lettering was handwritten in gold ink to finish it all off. I chose to frame the print in a simple white box frame where it was sat proud by 5mm off the backing card to create that lovely depth.

This is one of my favourite pieces I enjoy working on, so if you are looking to get something similar done, then just drop me a line via the Contacts Page. xxx

[private commission] A personalised bunny baby grow

MbM_COMMISSIONS_BABYGROW_1

A recent commissioned piece for the lovely Reema who wanted a little something special for her niece. We decided on this bunny motif for the baby grow (Reema’s nickname is ‘bunny’) and with the words “Bunny Loves You” which I thought was incredibly adorable.

The motif is made up of several pieves to make the appliqué which I then hand-stitched onto the baby grow. I really grew fond of this piece as it was something different from the elephant motifs I’ve done in the past. I’m actually quite tempted to make an adult size of this……..the bunny motif, not the babygrow!! :P Anyway, if you are looking to get something similar done, then just drop me a line via the Contacts Page. xxx

[D.I.Y. Birthdays] 5 is the perfect number

This was a little something I had made for my best friend’s little by who turned 5 back in August but never got round to sharing it on here. I had bought a plain cotton navy-coloured polo shirt and hand-sewed on the applique (the no. 5) that I had cut out of some left over bright pink organic cotton fabric. I also used a bit of pink fabric paint to give that graffiti effect around the applique. Added a MOLU label made of the same fabric….et voila! A simple but effective little keepsake gift for a little one xBLOG_STRIP_5thbirthday_WEB

[Handmade Gifts]: Faith. Hope. Love. but the greatest of these is love

This is taken from one of my favorite verses from the Bible (1 Corinthians 13:13) and one that we used at our wedding  that I find so understatedly powerful. And whether you are religious or not, I think these three words can be so poignant to all aspects of our lives; from career paths to relationships to general lifestyle. In this day an age where we live in the fast lane, driven by ambition, financial and social statuses, and materialistic things, I do find myself musing over what’s important in life, and it’s those days when I stop to reassess, I realise how much strength and peace you can seek from just living by these three simple words. Anyway, I’m not here to philosophise but show you how I turned those three words into a bespoke wall art for the home….or for a special occasion! :)

It’s a paper-cutout technique I love (and used many times before) where the layout is first designed, mapped out, each letter individually hand cut and then mounted in a way that it sits a couple of millimeters off the backing card to give you that beautiful shadow gap between the two planes (it’s the architectural side of me coming out here, sorry!) This piece fits an 8×10″ box frame and can be made using various backing card stock to suit your home decor. I’m going to be listing this up on my Etsy shop soon, along with a couple of other ‘paper-cutout’ wall art pieces, so I’ll keep you posted when I do! I can obviously do custom pieces based on your requirements, so if you’re interested – I may be the gal for you! :) x

[Handmade Gifts] Pink cushion for a little girl!

Here’s another little cushion I made a few weeks back and is now listed on my Etsy shop along my baby ‘BOY’ one which will be opening very soon! All the fabric used here are 100% premium cotton and the appliqué is designed, cut out and free-hand sewn using my trusted sewing machine. These cushions come laced with fresh lavender to give you or that special little someone that extra calming fragrance! Hope you like it! Now i’m off to bed! xx

[Private Commission]: personalised lavender-scented cushion

This was a commissioned piece for a dear friend and new parent who, after seeing my baby ‘BOY’ cushion that I had made a while back, wanted to have a cushion personalised with her baby boy’s name for his nursery. Since she didn’t know if she was having a boy or a girl, the colour scheme for the nursery was kept neutral with shades of green and yellow. The choice of fabric was therefore picked with this in mind by opting for a lovely green and white chevron fabric (by Riley Blake Designs) for the back panel, plain ice white fabric for the front panel, onto which the personalised and hand cut appliqué in this gorgeous leafy colours (by Jenn Ski for Moda Fabrics) were sewn – All fabric used in the making of this cushion were premium 100% cotton, stuffed with polyester filling, and laced with lavender. I will be listing this on my upcoming Etsy store for anyone that wishes to have personalised (30x25cm) cushions made to order.  Please do let me know what you think!! :) BLOG_STRIP_Ayaansh-Cushion-Web[image credit: Made by Molu]
