SHOP-LAUNCH_MAIN-IMAGE[Image Credit: Made by Molu]

It’s been long-awaited and I cant believe this day has come (!!!) but I am pleased to announce that my shop doors (albeit virtually) are officially open!  You will find a range of bespoke handmade goodies (all made to order) from wall art to cushions to baby accessories whether it’s for the home or for a special occasion. Please do stop by and have a wee look – you can click here or the ‘Etsy’ tab on my sidebar to the right of this post to take you directly to the shop!  I will still be available for commissioned pieces and custom orders so just drop me a line and we can take it from there! Oh, and there’s plenty more handmade prettiness coming to the store as I’ll be listing them up as I go along, so do make sure you stay keep in the loop!!!

A massive ‘thank you’ goes out to my awesome husband, family and dear friends who have constantly stuck by me and all my creative antics (and having endured all my ramblings on wanting to set up a business) over the last two years. It is because of them and the amazing support from my readers/followers that I have finally taken the plunge to make this a reality. FYI – if this goes tits up, you are all to blame!  JUST KIDDING!!! :) I seriously cannot be any more excited (and nervous!) about this and hope one small step to bigger and better things in life! My love and humble gratitude goes out to you all! xxx

Anyway, I sincerely hope you like what you see and if you have any feedback or comments then, as always, I’m all ears! In the meantime… happy browsing/shopping folks!! Oh and please, pleeaaasee do spread the word too!! Thank you!!! xx

Prepping for the Etsy launch!

So, I’ve been super busy prepping for the opening of my Etsy shop in whatever spare time I could find – making sure all my images were picked and edited accordingly, getting all the text right for my listings and giving the website a little spruce up (as you may already see) – all in time for the big announcement. I must say that I realised quickly that it takes time for these things if you want to get it done right (if you’re as OCD as me that is) but then seeing how my work evolves constantly (mostly driven by commissioned pieces and personal gifts to date) I also realised that the shop should grow to reflect that, where I’m not trying to have it stocked up with 101 listings for the sake of the opening! Not only is that physically not viable but makes no sense in the type of products I’m offering. So I’ll start off small and grow progressively over the next few months and years. Anyway, so when does it launch I hear you ask? One more sleep!! Yep – i’m launching it tomorrow so stay tuned for it. In the meantime, here are some of my work you’ll soon find in my shop to be made to order! Eeeek! :P xx

It’s been a while since I made any elephant cushions and I couldn’t resist making this little guy to compliment the custom-made cushion I did for my friend (see my earlier post). I’ve even added a bit of lavender so that he smells divine! He will be available on Etsy soon (I’ll be doing two sizes, one at approx 20x20cm and another at 40x40cm in different fabric choices) so do stay tuuuuuuned!! xx

[Private Commission]: Lavender-scented heart cushion

DSC_4807-webThis is a glimpse into a recent commissioned work I did where I was asked to make a large personalised lavender-scented cushion in the shape of heart (using 100% cotton fabric) for a friend who was looking for a something ‘handmade’ for her sister’s birthday. So, if you are looking for something ‘bespoke’ and personalised, I can be available to discuss your ideas further….whatever they may be…..and draw up something to suit your needs. Always happy to discuss new and exciting projects! :) xx

It’s not about the journey, but the destination.

BLOG_STRIP_anniversary-5_webWell it’s been a lovely couple of weeks celebrating some special milestones; our 1st wedding anniversary followed by my thirtieth birthday and for both occasions I’ve been rather overwhelmed by all the thoughtful gifts received from loved ones. So, I thought I’d do a little series on ‘gifts’ based on the ones received, starting with our 1st wedding anniversary, where traditionally gifts of ‘paper’ ranging from love letters to scrapbooks to vouchers (depending on how creative you are) are presented to each other. As you can imagine, I was delighted at the prospect of making something unique for my husband seeing as it had been a while since I did anything of that sort (I think Christmas or his birthday was the last time!) so in this blog post, I’ll give you a wee nosey at what I ended up making for him!  Oh and FYI, this is the first of his two presents I got him!  ;)

So – I knew I wanted to make a print of some kind. My husband loves collecting bespoke pieces of art so I decided I’d make something he could have framed that was not only symbolic of our relationship and marriage but also a piece of inspiration for all the years to come together…..come what may. Interestingly, I had come across a quote a couple of months ago which I had scribbled down (I do this a lot! Anything I find inspirational I just jot down) and I thought really summed what I was looking for: It’s not about the destination, but the journey. And how very apt! Apparently, there are several adaptations of this quote but Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American poet, is often credited for it. Anyway, seeing as we completed one wonderful (and eventful!) year together, it was important that we reminded ourselves that it’s the journey we embark together, irrespective of the final destination, that really matters…for the destination we cannot always foresee or have control over but as long as we’re in it together we’ll do just fine! :) So, with that in mind, I sketched out the words a few times until I was pleased at how they were positioned after which I patiently cut each letter out by hand to create a stencil. By this stage, I remembered the tandem bike and balloon design I had drawn up for the screen-printing workshop earlier in the year (which I had used to make my ‘You & Me’ t-shirts) and knew instantly that it would team up perfectly with this quote. A stencil of this was also cut out and once I was satisfied with how it all sat on the card stock I wanted to print on, I got stamping away using Versacraft black ink. for the quote and the tandem bike, and the red ink for the balloon. BLOG_STRIP_anniversary-1_webAnd this is how the final piece turned out! I did have another frame in mind for this piece but for now I had it placed in a spare Ikea RIBBA 42x52cm frame (fits A3 and oversized A3 prints) we had kicking about. So what do you think? I must say I was delighted I got the thumbs up from my man! :D Anyhoo….do stay tuned for more on the various gifts received! xxBLOG_STRIP_anniversary-3_web

[D.I.Y. Gifts]: Hand-cut wall art for a 1st Holy Communion

BLOG_STRIP_1ST COMMUNION 2 web

My niece was having her 1st holy Communion celebration over the weekend and not really knowing what to get or where to find the right kind of gifts for this special occasion I decide to make something unique to give to her. A bible or a cross pendant are normally what you’d give but I opted to pick a verse from the bible that would be a source of inspiration to her now and all throughout her life. We picked a short but poignant verse from the book of Isaiah (chapter 42, verse 10) and decided to cut the letters out by hand and then have it framed in a lovely white box frame so that it sat a few millimeters off the brown backboard. I felt the play on shadows between the letters added a nice touch. I then made a greeting card with the words ‘Faith, Hope, Love‘ (from the book of Corinthian, chapter 13) cut out in a similar style to the wall art and stuck onto a brown recycled card so the two things tied in nicely. Here’s how they both turned out. xx
